The Rebirth

St. Anthonys is the only private school in LB. But majority of the city doesn't hold the school to a prestigious level as they do other private school. Well that has begun to change. In just this year alone the school has brought in 3 CIF championships in 3 different sports! Their girls basketball team won after a stellar 22-5 3rd quarter surge lead them to a 68-43 victory over Duarte. This year both football (12-2) and girls volleyball (28-2) banded together as a unit and brought home the hardware. Football had a strong season going 6-0 at home lead by Sr. QB John Buksa, who had a phenomenal year passing for 2624yds, and 28 TDs and then rushing for another 1363yds and 19 TDs! Sr. wide out Nico Ragas was on the receiving end of 9 of Buksa's touchdowns and recorded 870yds on 47 receptions. On the Defensive end LB Ziggy Tua lead the team with 34 solo tackles, and 17 tackles he assisted on marking his season total at 54! DE Dominick Tucker added to the defensive terror recording 8 sacks and DB's Tino Venegas and Elijah Bankston each snatched 2 interceptions on the seasons. On top of their reign on their division in CIF the schools band and cheeleading squad earned championship honors as well! Basketball and Soccer are currently in season and we will see if the Saints will continue this upward swing into the new year. Check out their website and stay updated on St. Anthonys high!
